NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Datadog, the essential monitoring platform for modern cloud environments, today announced its membership in the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). The company also announced its support for the OpenTracing standard and is now part of the OpenTracing Specification Council. Datadog’s Agent, APM tracers, and associated integrations are open source, and the company has shown a commitment to open source standards since launching in 2010. The company also supports a number of existing projects run by the CNCF, including Kubernetes, etcd, fluentd, and containerd.

“Datadog is proud to join the Cloud Native Computing Foundation and continue our longstanding efforts to simplify monitoring and instrumentation of the foundation’s open source projects,” said Ilan Rabinovitch, Director of Product Management at Datadog. “Open source technologies are critical to the success of both Datadog and our customers, and we are excited that our contributions will enable OpenTracing to instrument Go, Python and .NET based applications.”

With support for OpenTracing, Datadog is providing its customers access to a vendor-neutral standard for distributed tracing within its Application Performance Monitoring (APM) product. This will ensure that Datadog customers can instrument their code for distributed tracing without worrying about vendor lock-in or the need for costly changes to their code-base in the future. Datadog is also part of the OpenTracing Specification Council, and will invest resources in developing and maintaining the OpenTracing standard going forward.

“OpenTracing compatible Datadog tracers are important to our customers because it allows them to instrument their code using a vendor-neutral standard, while accessing powerful Datadog features around analyzing traces, viewing metrics, and triggering alerts” said Brad Menezes, APM Product Manager at Datadog. “By joining the OpenTracing Specification Council, we look forward to playing an active role in shaping the future of the standard and ensuring the voices of customers are heard as the project evolves”.
