As government agencies accelerate their adoption of cloud technologies—particularly SaaS applications—they need to adhere to strict compliance and security standards. The Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) sets these standards for civilian federal agencies, while the Impact Levels laid out by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) in their Cloud Computing Security Requirements Guide set guidelines for Department of Defense (DoD) agencies.
Building on our current FedRAMP Moderate authorization, we’re excited to announce that Datadog is committed to pursuing FedRAMP High authorization. For DoD agencies, this level of authorization corresponds to Impact Level 5. This means that public-sector organizations that require these higher-level certifications will be able to use Datadog to monitor the health, performance, and security of all of their applications and infrastructure.
Full visibility into public-sector cloud environments
Many public-sector agencies rely on distributed cloud infrastructures to collaborate effectively and maintain efficient operations. Datadog integrates with major cloud providers, including AWS, GCP, and Azure, allowing agencies to gain a unified view into the health and performance of these systems, including their infrastructure, applications, networks, and user experience.
Let’s say you’re an engineer on a DevOps team at a medical agency, and you need to monitor the performance of your cloud-based databases so that researchers can store and transfer data from them at the necessary speed. You can use Datadog to set alerts on key database metrics, so you’ll be notified if, for example, database throughput approaches a throttling limit. Now, you can provision more database resources before this limit is reached, minimizing downtime and promoting operational efficiency.
As another example, say you need to test the availability of your infrastructure as users from across the country visit your web application to enroll in or check the status of critical public-sector services. You can use Datadog Synthetic Monitoring to simulate user behavior without risking live outages.
You can also use the Host Map in Datadog to visualize the status of servers across your infrastructure, as well as gain a high-level view of CPU utilization, network throughput, and other key metrics.
This view helps you quickly pinpoint anomalies in host performance so you can identify areas for investigation and more easily analyze the root causes of issues. And because Datadog allows you to correlate metrics across the stack, you can identify any adjacent infrastructure resources that may be contributing to the anomalous performance status, simplifying the troubleshooting process and speeding time to remediation.
