Technical Enablement Session Hero Background

About This Session

If a metric is not submitted from one of the more than 900 Datadog integrations, it is considered a custom metric. Custom metrics help you track your application KPIs, such as the number of visitors, average customer basket size, request latency, or performance distribution for a custom algorithm.

Learning Objectives

  • Differentiate between custom metrics and OOTB metrics available in Datadog via integrations, logs, and APM.
  • Describe the four ways to submit a custom metric and understand the relationship between metric submission and metric type.
  • Explain the different strategies used to control and track custom metric usage, especially Metrics Without Limits™ (MWL) and estimated usage metrics.
