Gain Maximum Visibility

Visibility into your applications & systems is critical to guard against errors, maintain uptime & protect performance. I’ll show how DevOps allows us to build better systems by leveraging the perspectives of different teams to gain that visibility.

A native of Wisconsin, Elizabeth Plumb has spent much of her career at the intersection of sales and technology. Today, Elizabeth is a sales engineer at Datadog, where she oversees enterprise sales accounts. Previously, Elizabeth was a sales engineer and technical account manager at Puppet and Terma Software Labs. Elizabeth resides in Portland, where she spends her spare time with her husband and daughter—and occasionally sneaks out for a game of poker.

How Do You Infect Your Organization With Humane Ops?

Richard Dawkins described memes as being a form of cultural propagation, which is a way for people to transmit social memories and cultural ideas to each other. Not unlike the way that DNA and life will spread from location to location, a meme idea will also travel from mind to mind.

Changing the mindset of any organization to a more humane approach to ops - including awareness of alert fatigue, burnout risk, and proactive vs. reactive approaches - can seem impossible.

In this talk, I will discuss how the very DNA of an organization can evolve through the use of actionable communications from all levels - management, strategy, and practitioners. The 'virus' of humane ops will infect your organization, providing a more sustainable approach to on-call, incident resolution, post-mortems, and more.

George Miranda made a career working in Web Operations for over 15 years at a variety of small dotcoms and large enterprises by obsessively working to improve technical team operations. He now works with software companies that make tools that help developers and infrastructure operators continuously improve their workflows. He's currently a Community Advocate for PagerDuty with previous roles at Chef Software and Buoyant, where he authored the O'Reilly book 'The Service Mesh: Resilient Service-to-Service Communications for Cloud Native Applications'. As an infrastructure engineer tackling distributed systems problems in the video game industry, he was always on-call. Having avoided that responsibility for years on the vendor side of the world, he's now back to being on-call once again. He's a digital nomad with roots in the Pacific Northwest and enjoys the outdoors, artisanal whiskey, and writing biographies no one reads.

Efficiency & Cost Optimization: Rightsizing Cloud Resources with Cloudability and Datadog

Cloudability, an AWS Cloud Management Tools Competency Launch Partner, is a leading cost optimization SaaS platform. We ensure our customers have great performance of their underlying infrastructure on AWS, Azure and GCP. Our machine learning engine evaluates billions of real-time and historic data points to make sure our clients get the best performance on these public clouds without spending a penny more than they need to.

Our clients like Atlassian and HERE Technologies wanted to ensure we could ingest and evaluate their Datadog APM metrics in our application to make even better cost optimization recommendations. Come see why our clients asked us to build an integration with Datadog APM and our machine learning platform and how it balances the performance and cost optimization while saving your organization time and money.
